Unfortunately, this is not Abidal’s first injury this season. He came back injured from the international break in November but he came back earlier than predicted when doctors thought he would be out for three weeks. Abidal has played 26 games for Barcelona this season. 14 of them were league games while he also featured in 2 Copa Del Rey games, 6 Champions League games, 2 FIFA World Club Cup matches and in both Super Copa and UEFA Super Cup.
It is a big blow to FC Barcelona and manager Pep Guardiola. The club already has a depleted defense and will be without Gerard Pique, Rafael Marquez, Dani Alves and Yaya Toure for this weekend's visit to Atlético Madrid. |
