Xavi’s new deal runs to 2016 while Cuenca off to Ajax on loan.

Barça had a busy week regarding players and their contracts. Xavi signed a new deal on Tuesday that sees him tied to the club to 2016. Today, the club announced that Cuenca will be heading to Holland to play for Ajax for the remainder of the season on loan.

FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday that Xavi Hernández will be a FC Barcelona player through June 30 of 2016 after he signed his contract extension. Xavi signed his new deal in the presence of club President Sandro Rosell, Vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Here are some of his comments from FC Barcelona’s Official Website.

“this is a special day because it means I’ll spend more years at Barça, this is where I want to be. My first choice was always to stay here. The Club has made an effort and I am grateful.”

“excited to play for Barça for many years to come. I know how demanding it is but I’d like to stay many more years.”

“There are many players that are able to play in my position and they’ve shown that they can do it"

“Barça will continue to perform when I’m not around.”

Additionally, FC Barcelona announced an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam in which Cuenca will be joining the Dutch club for the rest of the season. The deal will conclude on June 30, 2013 without a purchase option for Ajax.

FC Barcelona and Ajax have agreed to terms regarding the forward Isaac Cuenca. The forward will join Dutch side on loan through June 30 of 2013. The contract does not include a buy option for the Dutch side at the end of the season. Cuenca’s progress following last season’s emergence with the first team was halted because of a knee injury suffered late last season which required surgery. The summer surgery knocked him out of action until recently when he was given the medical green light to return to action back on January 21.
